HANDS-ON Physical Therapy provides its clients with a powerful system of somatic education and structural bodywork (myofascial release), based on the inseparability of body, mind, and spirit. The integrative nature of our work makes us stand out as a unique and holistic form of rehabilitation.

EVALUATION ~ Every client will have a 55-minute evaluation with a licensed physical therapist. The evaluation will consist of a detailed health history interview, postural assessment, walking and functional movement assessment, myofascial length testing, osteopathic listening techniques, and other conventional physical therapy testing techniques.

THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE ~ Every client will be instructed in a customized exercise program. Stretching programs and self-release techniques are taught to promote progress between sessions. (The myofascial length testing performed by the physical therapist will identify the specific musculature and fascial tissues that need to be stretched.) Dynamic stabilization exercises are taught to increase core muscle strength, reducing the risk of future injury. Functional strength training is taught to encourage a safe return to a client’s work and play demands. Our focus is on getting our clients independent with their home exercise program so there is more hands-on time during our treatment sessions.

BODYMECHANICS TRAINING and NEUROMUSCULAR REEDUCATION ~ The therapist will identify movement and postural patterns that may be contributing factors to their symptoms. The therapist will use a wide range of techniques to help increase a client’s body awareness for everyday activities such as walking, lifting, bending, sitting, and standing. Training will help you unlearn harmful patterns, making way for more fluid movement.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE is a treatment technique that works to release restrictions in the body’s fascial system. Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds all the structures in the body like a three-dimensional spiderweb. With injury, the fascia can become restricted and create pressure on pain-sensitive structures. Restrictions can lead to symptoms including pain, poor alignment, and decreased range of motion.

HELLERWORK / STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION is a series of eleven sessions aimed at releasing restrictions in the fascial system to restore you to a more balanced posture. Hellerwork is an integrative process combining structural bodywork, movement education, and dialogue.

VISCERAL MANIPULATION is a treatment technique consisting of gentle, specifically placed manual forces that encourage normal mobility, tone, and inherent tissue motion of the viscera, their connective tissue, and other areas of the body where physiologic motion has been impaired. The therapist will evaluate the fascia supporting your organs and then use visceral manipulation to release specific fascial restrictions. We find that this technique is often able to resolve chronic symptoms.

NEURAL MANIPULATION consists of gentle, specifically placed manual forces that release local nerve restrictions, encouraging optimal nerve function. Neural manipulation also examines the mechanical relationship between cranium, spine, dura, and the peripheral nervous system.

CRANIOSACRAL techniques work on the deepest fascial layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord. This treatment is extremely effective in treating headaches, whiplash, TMJ dysfuction, and acute back pain.

MASSAGE THERAPY ~ Our massage therapists will customize your session according to your body’s specific needs. All our massage therapists are certified in California and specialize in medical based massage, myofascial release, and deep tissue bodywork. They also share their vast knowledge of self help techniques to make the positive benefits of their tissue work more permanent.
